We’re excited to announce that LimeChain has successfully completed the migration of Subsquid from Firesquid to the more advanced ArrowSquid processor. This migration, executed with the support from the Polkadot OpenGov, marks a significant improvement in the performance and functionality of Subsquid, a key tool that provides access to on-chain data within the Substrate ecosystem.
GiantSquid is now live and completely free to use.
Subsquid is a critical infrastructure for developers and users within the Substrate ecosystem, offering easy access to on-chain data via GraphQL gateways. These gateways serve as data sources for APIs and on-chain exploration tools across multiple chains, including Polkadot, Kusama, Moonbeam, and Acala.
Previously, Subsquid was powered by the Firesquid processor. With the migration to ArrowSquid, we’ve introduced substantial performance enhancements, including:
Thanks to the migration, all 50+ public squid endpoints now benefit from the enhanced performance and efficiency of ArrowSquid.
Another key aspect of this upgrade is the enhanced indexing capabilities implemented. Before the migration, Subsquid lacked support for indexing calls and events from the Staking and Crowdloan pallets that contain crucial information for many Substrate chains. Our team at LimeChain has successfully integrated these indexing features, unlocking access to critical on-chain data for developers and users alike.
This enhanced indexing will also improve the performance of Polkascan, which directly relies on data provided by GiantSquid, enabling more comprehensive and reliable access to blockchain information.
For developers building on chains like Polkadot, Kusama, Moonbeam, and Acala, the migration to ArrowSquid means faster, more efficient, and reliable access to on-chain data. The introduction of near real-time APIs and expanded indexing capabilities will make it easier to build applications, analyze blockchain data, and deliver a more seamless user experience. And the best part?
This entire migration was made possible through a Polkadot OpenGov proposal, which allowed us to receive the necessary support and resources to carry out the project. OpenGov continues to play a vital role in facilitating community-driven initiatives that enhance the Polkadot ecosystem, and we’re proud to have contributed to its growth through this effort and not only.
At LimeChain, we remain committed to driving innovation and improvements within the Web3 space. With the successful migration to ArrowSquid behind us, we’re looking forward to tackling new challenges and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the Polkadot ecosystems.
